Entrance: Benedictus from Karl Jenkins, The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace (1999)
Welcome: Revd. Canon Michael Hunter
Opening prayer
We meet in the presence of God,
who holds the keys of life and death.
We meet to remember the life of Bill, who has died;
to give thanks, to forgive, and to look forward.
We meet to commit Bill and ourselves
to Almighty God, whose son Jesus Christ has
passed through death before us.
So, Father, give peace to your servant Bill
whose body now rests in this place.
May the prayers of your whole Church uphold him
And support us in the face of death's mystery;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
A word to those not able to be present
Appreciations from Betty, Pauline, John, James and Helen
Silence
Almighty God, giver of all mercy,
deal graciously we pray with those who mourn,
that, casting all their care upon you,
they may know the consolation of your love,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen
Commendation
Almighty father, by your mighty power,
you gave us life and, in your love,
you have given us new life in Christ Jesus.
We entrust Bill to your merciful keeping
in the faith of Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who died and rose again to save us
and is now alive and reigns with you
and the Holy Spirit in glory forever. Amen.
Committal
We have entrusted Bill to God’s merciful keeping,
and now we commit his body to be cremated in sure and certain hope of the resurrection to eternal life,
through our Lord Jesus Christ,
who died, was buried and rose again for us,
to him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
The Grace
May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all, evermore. Amen.
Closing music: In Paradisum from Gabriel Fauré, Requiem in D minor, Op. 48, 1890.
